NEUROSCIENCE. For the article ‘‘Human stem progenitor cells from bone marrow promote neurogenesis of endogenous neural stem cells in the hippocampus of mice,’’ by James R. Munoz, Brooke R. Stoutenger, Andrew P. Robinson, Jeffrey L. Spees, and Darwin J. Prockop, which appeared in issue 50, December 13, 2005, of Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA (102, 18171–18176; first published December 5, 2005; 10.1073 pnas.0508945102), the authors note that the colors in Figs. 1–4 appeared incorrectly. The corrected figures and their legends appear below. These errors do not affect the conclusions of the article.

Human stem/progenitor cells from bone marrow promote neurogenesis of endogenous neural stem cells in the hippocampus of mice.

Stem/progenitor cells from bone marrow and other sources have been shown to repair injured tissues by differentiating into tissue-specific phenotypes, by secreting chemokines, and, in part, by cell fusion. Here we prepared the stem/progenitor cells from human bone marrow (MSCs) and implanted athem into the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus of immunodeficient mice. The implanted human MSCs marked...

Bone marrow stromal cells can promote the neurogenesis in subventricular zone in the rat with focal cerebral ischemia

Introdution: Stroke is one of the most common diseases caused by occlusion or rupture of blood vessels in brain. It brings heavily loads for families and societies. Although some new strategies including treatment of tissue plasminogen activator have been applied in the clinic, these methods do not have perfect effect. Accordingly, more effective therapeutic strategies need to be developed...

Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells in Addiction Related Hippocampal Damages

The brain is an important organ that controls all sensory and motor actions, memory, and emotions. Each anatomical and physiological modulation in various brain centers, results in psychological, behavioral, and sensory-motor changes. Alcohol and addictive drugs such as opioids and amphetamines have been shown to exert a great impact on brain, specifically on the hippocampus. Emerging evidence ...

Harvesting of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells from live rats and the in vitro differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells into neuron-like cells

In the bone marrow, there are certain populations of stem cell sources with the capacity to differentiate into several different types of cells. Ideally, cell transplants would be readily obtainable, easy to expand and bank, and capable of surviving for sufficient periods of time. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) possess all of these characteristics. One of the most important benefi...

Matrigel Enhances in vitro Bone Differentiation of Human Marrow-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Objective(s) The use of co-culture cells as well as extra cellular matrix are among those strategies that have been employed to direct mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) bone differentiation in culture. In this regard, there is no study considering the effects of Matrigel on mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) in vitro bone differentiation. This was the subject of the present study. Materials and Methods ...
